Adios.... Maureen

The thunder storm disturbed the serene thursday night that she had planned to rest mentally. She tossed and turned but the rumblings of the sky were not enough to quiet the turb

ulence that was raging in her mind.

Lazily, she threw the blanket and moved to make a midnight snack, a failed attempt as the liquid that once satisfied her whenever she encountered such tedious nights had suddenly lost its power. She made a mental note to replace the chocolate beverage with liquor that morning.

A look at her shattered mirror lodged in between the burglary proof of her shabby apartment sent her reeling. how did it ever get to this. She had resolved to never let such repeat itself. The visit to the psychologist had revealed what she had feared the most. A deep-seated monster was lodged on her inside tactfully tearing at ever bit of confidence she had amassed over the years. She had lost the zeal to do anything she loved, it was just as tasteless as the cheap hot choco that was stacked in dozens in her bag.

Heaving she reached for the pen and pad that had been lodged underneath her oil-soaked pillow and decided to begin her long over due assignment. Time travel.

Maureen stared at the paper for over an hour, trying her very best to shut out memories of the past few months, the alternate universe she had created did her nothing near good.

Eventually she picked the pen, rubbed her forehead. this was way harder than she thought.

 Dear little one, she began

We are twenty something and we do not have our lives together, I have failed you. You’re not married, you do not have a fancy bank account and you haven’t gone beyond the shores of agege.

I am sorry,

The knock on her door interrupted jolted her back to life. lazily, she walks to the door.

“ nepa people have brought the bill” a squeaky voice said before she could reach the door

“ okay thank you Ijeoma I will take it when I am going out ”

Maureen looked once more on the image that occupied the screen of her cracked android device. She heaved as the look confirmed what she feared the most. He really had done it. He had gone ghost mode, aired her and most definitely decided to move on whilst she remained in the past wishing for do-overs.
